Our Girls’ Brigade Company celebrated 40 years in May of this year. It was the perfect way to finish yet another year.
On the 20th April 2008 the girls had a Church Service in the evening which was led by our Minister and Chaplin the Rev. John Hanna. The main focus of the Service was the future of our Company and this was achieved with a poem from the Explorer Section, singing by our GB Choir and readings by Claire Ross and Rachel Glenn. There was a presentation of a Bible and a cup for each member of our Company at the end of the Service to mark this special anniversary on our GB calendar.
Prior to the Service we had a buffet tea for all the past Officers, Captains and parents of the leaders in our Company who came through the ranks of our Company. We had a cake and this was cut by the current Captain Ruth Thompson and the first Captain of our Company Ethel Whiteside. We also had a photo gallery and the past members had fun looking back on fond memories of the Company.
Finally the next night we had a party for the girls as a reward for all their hard work in preparation for the service which they really enjoyed.
We as Officers look forward to watching the girls grow within the Company as they withhold the motto of GB – To Seek, Serve and Follow Christ.
